CS371g Summer #7 — Matt Lang

What did you do this past week?

It has been a lot of Deque with an excellent partner. It has been such a good experience overall partnering up with many of you. I always learn a ton and gain new ideas when doing so.

I’ve also focused more time this week on simply sleeping, eating, and making my gym sessions. I not only feel better, but it appears to have significant carryover to working better.

What’s in your way?

Not much. I feel pretty good this week.

What will you do next week?

I will be working on the last project (will we have one?) and counting the days left of class. It has been a wonderful experience, but I am ready for a break.

If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #7: What Happens to Us?

It makes me upset to see these things still happen. I understand we do not live in a perfect world, but why the hell are we assuming a woman is doing assistant work? Have we not worked with a fellow classmate who is a woman and thought: “well damn, I hope I can carry my own weight” when working on a project?

I also intend to be more aware of my own biases. Although I am shocked at the things I’ve read in this paper, I know I cannot possibly be a perfect beacon of social justice. It is more than likely that I have room to improve and make this workforce a better place.

What was your experience of vector, allocator, and deque? (this question will vary, week to week)

There were many things that seemed pretty intuitive and easy to understand. There were many more parts, such as remembering how to use the allocator, that gave me an initial headache.

What made you happy this week?

Working with a partner you enjoy talking to about things other than classwork makes me happy. I am also solidifying a daily routine, and I feel much more accomplished and satisfied when in one.
